Basque Language Instruction

During the Spring semester the University of Nevada, Reno will offer two courses in spoken Basque (Elementary Spoken Basque 150 and 151). Basque 150 is a beginning course and assumes no knowledge of the language. To be admitted to Basque 151, the student must have completed Basque 150. This requirement will be waived for students who already possess some knowledge of the language.

Both courses will be offered in the evening in order to allow off-campus persons to participate. Basque 150 meets every Monday evening from 7–10 p.m. in Room 204 of the Fransden Humanities Building. Basque 151 meets every Wednesday evening from 7–10 p.m. in Room 204 of the Fransden Humanities Building.

Both courses will be taught by Professor Jon Bilbao. Interested persons may obtain registration information by calling or visiting the Registrar’s office of the University of Nevada, Reno (phone 784-6867).

The reason for offering the courses in the evening hours is to permit non-students, and particularly Basque persons of the Reno area, to attend. We hope that there will be sufficient interest to allow us to continue these courses in the future, so we urge those of you in the Reno area to consider attending. If there is insufficient enrollment, these courses may not be offered again.

Students should register on January 29 or 30. Instruction will begin in Basque 150 on February 2, 1970 and in Basque 151 on February 4, 1970. Even if you have been unable to register beforehand, feel free to attend the first session in the course that interests you. If you then decide to register, Professor Bilbao will assist you with the details.
