Second Annual Basque Studies Summer Session Abroad We are pleased to announce that we intend to organize a Basque Studies Summer Session Abroad for the summer of 1971. It is still too early to announce the full details but the broad outlines are clear. The cost will probably be the same as this year’s program ($995 per person which includes tuition, room and board, while attending classes, cultural events, excursions, and round trip air transportation from New York— not included are personal expenses such as shopping and your living expenses during two weeks of independent travel at the end of the program). The dates may differ. This year we departed on June 15. This worked a hardship on some persons. Next year we hope to leave about July 1st and return near the end of August. This year our residence was in the French Basque Country. We are negotiating for a facility in the Spanish Basque Country for next year. If we are successful we will divide our time about equally between the two areas. Instructors and course offerings will be the same as this year, with the possible exception that we might add one course to the curriculum. Cultural events and excursions will be similar to those provided this year (see article by Jon Bilbao in this issue of the Newsletter). We expect to have some scholarship assistance available for a few students. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Finally, we would like to indicate that you need not be a student at present in order to attend. Of the twenty-two students who attended this year’s program, seven were not regular university students. They simply attended the courses as auditors. If you are interested in further details on next year’s program, fill in the coupon below. [COUPON FORM] |
