Basque Linguistics Volume

The Basque Studies Program is pleased to announce the availability in this country of a volume of Basque linguistics papers published in Europe late in 1974.

This work, Papers from the Basque Linguistics Seminar, University of Nevada, Summer, 1972, is volume 6 (1972) of the Anuario del Seminario de Filología Vasca “Julio de Urquijo.” It consists of contributions resulting from the seminar in Basque linguistics sponsored jointly by the Basque Studies Program and the Idaho Office of Higher Education and held in conjunction with the 1972 Basque Studies Summer Session Abroad.

The seminar was taught by Dr. Rudolf de Rijk, now of the University of Leiden, who also edited the volume, and Professor Luis Michelena of the University of Salamanca. It drew students from a number of graduate departments of linguistics in the United States and Canada, most of whom received scholarship aid from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The volume contains the following contributions:

Luis Michelena, Presentación.
William A. Douglass, Introduction.
Glenn Ayres, Morphological Evidence of Abstract Verbs in Basque.
Ramón M.S. Bereicua Basauri, A Survey of Linguistic Variables in the Central Zone of the Deva River Valley.
Claudia Corum, Palatalization Phenomena in Basque.
Franscois Donzeaud, The Expression of Focus in Basque.
Jeffrey Heath, Genitivization in Northern Basque Complement Clauses.
William H. Jacobsen, Jr., Nominative-Ergative Syncretism in Basque.
Luis Michelena, A Note on Old Labourdin Accentuation.
Quentin Pizzini, Formation of the Present Participle in Basque.
R.P.G. de Rijk, Partitive Assignment in Basque.
Carlos Zarabozo, Two Borrowed Sound Changes in Basque.

Copies are available at $5.00 (postage and handling included) and may be ordered directly from the Basque Studies Program.
