Slide Shows Available We would like to remind our readers that the Basque Studies Program has two 30-minute slide programs available for rent. The programs, entitled “Euskalherria: Homeland of the Basques,” and “Euskaldunak: Basques of the American West,” were produced by the Basque Studies Program and North American Basque Organizations, Inc., to inform interested groups about the Basques and their culture. Each unit comes with a taped narration and is designed to be used with a carousel projector. The shows are appropriate for groups such as clubs and classes (junior high through university levels). A rental fee of $10, plus postage costs is charged for each unit. Please contact the Basque Studies Program for further details. Society for Basque Studies in America The Society for Basque Studies in America recently published Volume V of the Journal of Basque Studies in America. The journal contains both scholarly and popular articles on Basque culture. Members of the Society receive the journal as a part of their membership. Annual dues are $10 to $25 for regular members. The exhibit consists of 37 color photographs of summer grazing areas of the Plumas range where Basque herders brought their sheep during the first half of this century. Many of the photos record tree carvings made by the herders in aspen groves. Seven rubbings made onto canvas directly from the trees are included in the exhibit. The project was funded by the California Council for the Humanities and National Endowment for the Humanities, and sponsored by Feather River College. The exhibit is available for loan to groups such as museums and libraries. There is no fee charged, but the borrower would have to pay freight and insurance costs. Please contact the Basque Studies Program for details. |
