Basque Studies Program Newsletter · Issue 33, 1986 Friends of the Basque Studies Program During the past year the Basque Studies Program received a $25,000 challenge grant that provided one dollar for each dollar raised from other sources. The primary purpose of the campaign was to provide sorely needed support for the Basque-English Dictionary project. The Friends of the Basque Studies Program managed to raise approximately $16,000 which released a like amount to the Program. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause. At the same time, we have a renewed $25,000 challenge for the coming year (the second year of a three-year commitment). I urge you to consider making a contribution in order to help meet that goal. The Basque Studies Program needs your continued support and generosity. Milla esker / Eskerrikasko. Robert P. Laxalt, Chairman Zenbat Gara – UNR Basque Club A UNR Basque Club, Zenbat Gara (How many are we), has been established at UNR and is in the process of becoming integrated with the Associated Students of the University of Nevada-Reno for the purpose of expressing and learning more about Basque culture and its country, their influence in America, their survival to the present, and to become more familiar with the Basque Studies Program. The club will be a social, educational, and service one, especially to reunite those students who studied in the Basque Country. The first meeting was held on March 11. The first function of the club was to celebrate a tentative annual Aberri Eguna (Day of the Fatherland) picnic. This year’s was held on April 13 at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno, Nevada. Donation The Andrak (Ladies’ Auxiliary) of Eusko-Etxea of New York recently held a fundraiser for the Basque-English dictionary project. They raised $1,000 for this worthy cause. We are extremely grateful. |
