Basque Studies Program Newsletter · Issue 33, 1986 Prestigious Prize In January, Robert P. Laxalt was given the “Tambor de Oro” (golden drum) award in San Sebastián. The prize is regularly awarded to the person deemed to have best publicized the city through his works. Laxalt’s books on Basque topics and his several articles in publications such as National Geographic magazine earned him this prestigious distinction. He traveled to Europe to receive his golden drum in the company of his daughter Monique and son Bruce.
