Basque Event On April 23 a singing and bertsolari contest was held in Gardnerville, Nevada, sponsored by the Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba and NABO. The competition was well organized and attracted a large crowd who enjoyed the excellent performances and the improvisations by the bertsolaris (Basque versifiers). The song contest included a children's division and two adult divisions, one for traditional songs and one for modern. The winners of the respective categories were Bernadette Minaberry, the group "Boisetarrak" and the duo Chris Bieter and Patty Miller. Among the four bertsolaris, a Navarrese, Jesús Gońi, was selected as the winner. The singer Mikel Bidart served as gaijartzaile, or moderator. The judges for the singing competition were Jeannie Mazéris, Justo Sarria and Gorka Aulestia; for the bertsolari competition they were Justo Sarria, Martin Minaberry and Gorka Aulestia. Congratulations to the Gardnerville club for a job well done. |
