1989 Academic Programs in the Basque Country The USBCC will again organize academically accredited programs in Europe next year. The following courses will be offered during the spring or summer of 1989. Approximately 150 students from throughout the United States and Europe will study in Consortium programs this year. Graduate and undergraduate credit are fully transferable to your university. Spring 1989 San Sebastián Program Language and Literature - up to fourteen credits of Basque or Spanish courses. In addition, the following courses are taught in English: Basque History (History), Basque and Iberian Political Institutions (Political Science), Theories of Society (Sociology), Problems of Modernization (Sociology), European Common Market (Economics), Basques Cuisine (Home Economics), Practicum in English as a Second Language (Teacher Education), American Constitutional Law (Political Science), and Folk Dance (Physical Education). Six-week Summer Program in San Sebastián (July 1 - August 12) Language and Literature - up to six credits of Basque and Spanish courses. Other courses taught in English: Basque and Iberian History (History), Basque Nationalism (Political Science), and Basque and Iberian Culture Anthropology). French and Basque Studies in Pau (Winter and/or Spring Quarters) French Language - up to eleven credits each quarter. Basque Language - up to two credits each quarter. French and Basque Culture - three credits each quarter. French Literature, Geography, Economy, etc. - depending on language proficiency. International Business and Economics (in Italy - Spring 1989) Italian Language - three to four credits, three levels. Italian Culture - three credits. The Political and Economic Institutions of the European Economic Community (Economics 3). International Marketing (Economics 3). Money and Banking (Finance 3). Operations Management (Managerial Science 3). Scholarships 1. Scholarships have been made available by the government of Euskadi for UNR students to attend the San Sebastián Program as part of a cultural agreement between Euskadi and the state of Nevada. II. It is anticipated that from one to five $5,000 scholarships will be available for students of Basque descent who wish to study in Pau during the 1989-90 academic year. These scholarships have been made available by the Conseil General du Pyrénées Atlantiques. Kathleen Camino, a UNR graduate student of French from Buffalo, Wyoming, was awarded one of these scholarships for the 1988-89 year. Kate is a former student of both the San Sebastián and Pau Programs where she learned Basque, Spanish and French. III. Each year the Domingo Ansotegui-Lynn Fereday Memorial Scholarship Fund helps support meritorious students from Idaho. |
