Basque Language Class May Be Offered
in the Reno Area

We are considering offering an elementary Basque class (for beginners) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings next fall. The scheduling is to allow persons in the community who have other daytime commitments to attend. At this time we are trying to assess the level of interest in such a class. If you might like to attend, please call Jill Berner at 784-4854 for further information.

Treasured Memories

The Basque Studies Program recently acquired a portrait of Jon Oņatibia. Jon, who was killed in an automobile accident several years ago, was a dear friend and enthusiastic supporter of the Basque Studies Program. Author of a Basque grammar, txistulari, and a Basque dance instructor, he taught language and folk dancing in several of our summer sessions held in the Basque Country. The portrait was painted by Virginia Chan de Rijk, former assistant coordinator of the Basque Studies Program, who now resides in Amsterdam where she is pursuing an art career. The painting will be a cherished reminder of two wonderful people who contributed mightily to the success of the Basque Studies Program.
