A New Publication

The Basque Studies Program has just published a book entitled Arriaga, the Forgotten Genius: The Short Life of a Basque Composer by Barbara Rosen. Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga is sometimes compared to Mozart both for his precociousness and the quality of his music. Indeed, had he not died tragically at a tender age, he would likely have been one of the nineteenth century's most important composers.

The present book is both a biographical account of the man and a critical evaluation of his music. Author Barbara Rosen formerly published The Mews of London (Webb and Bower, 1982).
