Basque Garden Planned in Boise

In 1990 the Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise, Idaho will build the only Basque Garden in the world as a tribute to Basque pioneers Sally Trott, campaign director of the project, says that garden personnel corresponded with Basque historians and botanists in the United States and the Basque Country in an effort to determine the design of the memorial garden. The Basque Coat of Arms, representing the seven Basque provinces, will be created with trees, shrubs, flowering and non-flowering plants, sculpture, and walking paths.

Because the Idaho Botanical Garden is a non-profit organization, donations for the memorial garden are being solicited. If sufficient funds are raised, groundbreaking ceremonies for the garden will be conducted on Saturday, June 16, 1989 during Jaialdi, the Basque celebration to be held June 15-17 in Boise, Idaho. If you would like to contribute to this project, send a check (payable to the Idaho Botanical Garden Basque Garden) to: Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 Old Penitentiary Road, Boise, ID 83712.

In Appreciation

The Kern County Basque Club donated $75.00 to the Basque Studies Program to help defray the costs of producing and mailing our Newsletter. Eskerrik asko!

We also wish to thank the families of the late Ciriaco Iturri and Louise Etcheberry for requesting that memorial donations be made in their names to the Basque Studies Program. We greatly appreciate your thinking of us in your time of grief.
