Traveling Tree Trunks Five aspen trunks containing Basque sheepherders carvings have been housed at the Basque Studies Program since the dedication of the Monument to the Basque Sheepherder. These unusual exhibits have attracted a great deal of interest from visitors to the library collection, but they have also attracted interest from abroad. The Basque History, Ethnography, and Archeology Museum in Bilbao (Euskal Arkeolojia, Etnografia eta Kondaira Museoa) has requested two of the aspen trunks to use in an exhibit they are preparing on Basque sheepherders. Jose Mallea, professor of history, is cooperating with the Museum by providing photographs and expertise, as well as the tree carvings themselves. Basque Tree Carving Video We are pleased to announce the availability of a new video tape entitled Basque Tree Carvings: Legacy in Nevada, the result of a collaboration between Jose Mallea and the instructional Media Services of the University of Nevada, Reno. The VHS tape runs about 18 minutes. To order, please send $15.00 (this includes postage within U.S.) to: Tree Carvings, Basque Studies Program / 322, University of Nevada, Reno, Reno NV 89557. Checks should be made out to Board of Regents. |
