Basque Studies Program Newsletter · Issue 49, 1994

New Publication

La Historia de la Pelota Vasca en las Américas is now available from the Basque Studies Program. The book describes the history of Basque handball and cesta punta--commonly known as jai alai--in the United States, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. It was edited by Carmelo Urza and resulted from a North American Basque Organization grant funded by the Basque government. Martin Minaberry of San Francisco initiated the project several years ago while serving as president of the Pan-American confederation of Pelota. The monograph, published in Spanish by Elkar in the Basque Country, contains several black-and-white photographs and is approximately 250 pages long.

Copies may be purchased for $16 each plus $2.50 postage for the first book, $0.50 for each additional copy. (Foreign orders: $5 postage for first book, $1 for each additional.) Please make checks payable to Board of Regents, and send to: Basque Studies Program, University of Nevada / 322, Reno, NV 89557-0012.
