Library Grant Its about time! The Basque Studies Program Collection is at last being cataloged thanks to a generous U.S. Department of Education Grant in the amount of $199,997. This money will cover the cost of salaries for two professional catalogers (Amy Coddington and Donna Sciascia) and two part-time library assistants, Judy Sokol and Brigida Cobb. In addition the funds will provide student help and equipment. The director of the project is Kathryn Etcheverria. In reality, the projects goal is to eventually catalog 10,000 books from the 32,000 volumes of the Basque Studies Library collection. The catalog records will appear on the database of the Online Cataloging Library Center (OCLC) to be accessed by libraries nationally and internationally. Students currently assisting on the project are Lulu Gabikagojeaskoa, Juan Ibarguren and Catherine Bonifacio. Marcelino Ugalde, Library Assistant in the Basque Studies Library, spends half his time currently assisting on the cataloging project. It was realized early on that language help would be necessary as they tackled the Basque language titles, and so Mr. Ugalde and Linda White are providing weekly language meetings to help with this aspect of the project. |
