Would You Be Interested? Eusko Ikaskuntza, the Basque Studies Society, has approached the Basque Studies Program with the request that we jointly investigate the feasibility of co-publishing an English edition of the Revista Internacional de Estudios Vascos (International Journal of Basque Studies). Under the plan the Basque Studies Program would retain a full time translator-editor and essentially serve as publisher of the English edition. This would be a major undertaking for the BSP and Eusko Ikaskuntza and we all feel that the effort is only worthwhile if there is genuine and sufficient interest. The Revista Internacional de Estudios Vascos appears twice yearly. Its articles embrace the entire range of Basque Studies from the social and natural sciences to the arts and humanities. It was founded in 1907 and ceased publication in 1936 with the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. During its first phase it was undoubtedly the most important serial devoted to Basque Studies. In 1983 the journal was revived under the auspices of Eusko Ikaskuntza which is the major Basque Studies association in the world. Publishing an English edition of the journal will require considerable seed money and it may never become a break even, let alone profitable, undertaking. The goal would be to ensure the presence of a quality English language journal in the English-speaking world (academic libraries, interested individuals, etc.). A critical factor in making the decision will be estimating the number of potential subscribers. It is anticipated that there will be two issues annually and that the subscription would cost $35.00. Consequently, if you are interested in the concept we would ask you to fill out the information below and return it to the Basque Studies Program. [coupon:] Please regard the following as a pre-subscription and donors form. Do not enclose money at this time. If it is decided to go forward with the journal we will contact you again. Please feel free to send us any comments that you may have.
