Basque Government Scholarships

The Department of Culture of the Basque Government annually offers two scholarships (approximately $6,800 each) for U.S. students who want to study Basque language and culture in the Basque Country. To quality, students must be enrolled at the University of Nevada at the time of study abroad.

Last year’s recipients were Josette Arrayet, a senior from Bakersfield, California, and Christopher Upchurch, a graduate student from Reno, Nevada. Both students are studying with the USAC programs in Bilbao/San Sebastián.

It is possible to study the Basque language at an elementary, intermediate or advanced level. While it is possible to study for one semester, priority will be given to students who enroll for the entire academic year. Application deadline for this scholarship for the coming academic year is May 1, 1995.

Interested students should contact:
