Then Came the French ...

And the French Basques. Mary Grace Paquette writes about the history of the French in Tuolumne County, California, and points out that there were numerous French and Spanish Basque miners during the Gold Rush. She includes their names in the index of her book.

The book contains numerous photographs, the index, a useful bibliography, and two maps: a frontispiece showing the mining centers of California and Nevada, and a centerfold locating many of the early mining camps of Tuolumne County.
