ElderCollege
Weekend
October was a busy month for BSP faculty and Zenbat
Gara dancers. Linda White and Jose Mallea helped organizer
Gloria Castillo put on a Basque ElderCollege weekend
program. White taught a class on the Basque language, and
she took part in a panel about Basque women and oral history
with Jean Ford on the afternoon of Saturday, the 19th of
October. That evening the group met at Louis’ Basque
Corner in Reno for dinner and watched the Zenbat Gara
dancers perform. The dancers were led by Lisa Corcostegui,
graduate student in the Basque Studies Tutorial Ph.D.
Program.
On Sunday, Jose Mallea hosted the group at the Basque
oven at Whiskey Creek Sheep Camp in the Tahoe National
Forest, and provided them with living history lectures on
the Basques in the American West.
