Basques throughout the World
Conference
The Basque Studies Program is hosting a conference on
“Basques throughout the World: Basque Emigration down
through the Centuries” at the University of Nevada,
Reno, July 6-8, 1998. Scholars who wish to present a paper
at the conference should submit a one-page proposal, along
with a curriculum vita, no later than February 1, 1998
to:

The conference has been scheduled to begin
immediately after the National Basque Festival held annually
in Elko, Nevada. The Conference Organizing Committee will
assist those wishing to attend the Elko Festival with travel
and lodging arrangements.
A number of travel stipends provided by Eusko
Jaurlaritza will be available to participants on a
competitive basis - up to $1,000 for overseas travel, or
$500 for domestic travel. Those wishing to apply for travel
assistance must include a copy of their paper by the
deadline. A committee will determine allocation of the
travel awards.
Should anyone wish to propose a session, or to serve
as a session organizer, please let us
know.
