Basque Elderhostel
The popular Basque Elderhostel took place May 17-23, at the University of Nevada, Reno. Marcelino Ugalde, Jose Mallea, and Lisa Corcostegui gave courses on several Basque topics, including language, music, costume, history, cuisine, nationalism, culture, and mythology.

At the closing banquet on Friday evening, the Zenbat Gara cultural club gave an exposition of traditional Basque dances in costumes created by the group members to reflect individual villages in the Basque Country. This year’s week of activities also included a field trip to the Monument to the Basque Sheepherder, located in Reno.

For information about the Basque Elderhostel and other Elderhostel programs, call Jane Bessette of Continuing Education at UNR at 702-784-4046, or you may access the Elderhostel web site at: www.elderhostel.org.
