Basque Elderhostel
The popular Basque Elderhostel took place May
17-23, at the University of Nevada, Reno. Marcelino Ugalde,
Jose Mallea, and Lisa Corcostegui gave courses on several
Basque topics, including language, music, costume, history,
cuisine, nationalism, culture, and
mythology.
At the closing banquet on Friday evening, the Zenbat
Gara cultural club gave an exposition of traditional Basque
dances in costumes created by the group members to reflect
individual villages in the Basque Country. This years
week of activities also included a field trip to the
Monument to the Basque Sheepherder, located in
Reno.
