Teresa Laxalt Memorial Scholarship

Julie Granata of Reno has been awarded the 1999/2000 Teresa Laxalt Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Julie is a graduate of Reno High School and throughout her youth has been very active with the local Zazpiak Bat Basque Club. At UNR she plans to study to become a nurse, and to continue her interests in singing and music.

The Teresa Laxalt Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Nevada resident of Basque descent who plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno. For application information, contact your school’s scholarship office or Jill Berner at the Basque Studies Program.



Dolores Saval Trigero Scholarship

Sandy Bengoa was selected to receive the Dolores Saval Trigero Scholarship in the amount of $600 for the 1999 / 2000 academic year. Ms. Bengoa grew up on a ranch in northern Nevada. She plans to pursue a career at the University of Nevada, Reno in civil engineering, with a minor in Basque Studies.

For information about applying for the Dolores Saval Trigero Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a student of Basque descent from rural Nevada, contact your school’s scholarship office or Jill Berner at the Basque Studies Program.
