Adelaida
Viscarret was the daughter of immigrant parents. Her father was from Nafarroa and her
mother from Urepel in Benafarroa. When Adelaida started kindergarten in the 1920s she
spoke no English. In 1928 her parents bought the Nevada Hotel in Elko, Nevada which they operated until 1938 and then leased it. They sold the hotel in 1945. The Nevada Hotel was moved across the street from its original location in the 1950s and was remodeled. Adelaida talks about life at the Nevada Hotel, its history, and Elko as it was in her childhood. She recalls menu items and childhood diversions and tells the story of her mother’s immigration. Read
